Collective Statement of Values:
Al-Adli Justice (Pro Bono) is an abolitionist, anti-carceral, anti-racist, anti-zionist, and anti-oppressive collective. We are committed to collective decision-making, mutual aid, horizontal organising, and accountability to the communities most harmed by systemic violence. Membership means upholding these values, challenging all forms of bigotry, and practicing transformative justice and care in all work and interactions.
We root our collective anti-oppressive and abolitionist organising not just in modern social theory but firmly in the Sunnah and the Qur'an’s calls for justice, dignity, and solidarity with the oppressed. As the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) taught, standing with the vulnerable and dismantling systems of oppression is a religious duty. Our commitment to anti-zionism, anti-racism, anti-queerphobia and collective liberation directly aligns with Islamic teachings and Prophetic example.
Membership and Withdrawal Policy:
Membership is dependent on sustained alignment with collective values and active, respectful participation.
Any member may withdraw at any time without penalty; exit processes are informal but expected to include notice to the collective - especially if there is active involvement with a client.
Should a member engage in oppressive, exclusionary or harmful behaviour, the collective - using consensus where possible - may discuss and, if needed, ask them to leave. Wherever possible, issues will be addressed through restorative or transformative processes, not immediate expulsion.
Conflict and Accountability Policy:
All collective members agree to raise conflicts or concerns transparently, with utmost respect for privacy.
Use regular check-ins and designated accountability circles or facilitators to mediate conflict, support learning/unlearning and repair harm.
Processes are documented to prioritise care and growth over punishment; only in instances of consistent or egregious harm will exclusion be considered.
Appeals or disagreements about decisions are handled by collective discussion; if consensus cannot be reached, the process is paused for cooling off and further consultation.
Safeguarding and Care Protocol:
All members share responsibility for community safety and care, especially for marginalised or vulnerable clients and members.
The collective supports trauma-informed practices, providing peer support and ensures that resources and referrals for more complex safeguarding needs (e.g. risk of harm) are accessible.
Any member should flag a safeguarding concern; the collective (or a care/facilitation sub-group) will address it with confidentiality and compassion.
Data and Privacy Practice:
Personal Information (names, application materials, discussion notes) will be stored as securely as possible, with access limited to membership team/facilitators and not shared externally.
No records of sensitive discussions or political beliefs will be held online longer than necessary for onboard/trial purposes - all data will not be identifiable to you, other than to those involved in recruitment.
All members are encouraged to use privacy-respecting communications platforms and avoid storing sensitive info in insecure/publicy accessible places - training will be provided.
Ongoing Collective Practice:
Membership is reviewed regularly (every 6-12 months) and subject to check-ins.
Collective values can be amended at any time by consensus, and members are encouraged to openly discuss any proposed changes.
Regular skill-shares, study groups and feedback sessions are part of collective life.
